Raccoon River Valley Trail work advances; board to discuss Waukee trail transfer with city

Director Curt Cable updated the board on multiple Raccoon River Valley Trail (RRVT) items April 14. He said Phase IV is complete and the work covered by Change Order #3 is finished, with asphalt cleanup completed.
Work on the Bridge D span replacement has begun on the access road and the project is expected to start in early May. A drainage project near Woodward (HTT drainage) will begin once site conditions allow after the landowner signed the easement.
Cable described a developer proposal in the City of Waukee to relocate a section of trail at the developer's expense near the Shottenkirk area on Hickman Road and the Broderick farm. Cable suggested the city may be better suited to address the relocation and noted discussion of a possible quit‑claim transfer of the affected portion. The board directed Director Cable to engage the City of Waukee regarding the Shottenkirk and Broderick area, coordinate with the Board of Supervisors, and obtain maintenance cost estimates if the parcel were to remain with DCCB.
Cable also outlined plans for a conservation trail master plan and an intersection safety study, with an RFP anticipated in December or January and data/results expected by July 2027 for incorporation into a county master plan.
