Dallas County Conservation Board approves canoe and kayak loan program with Polk County and ADM schools

The board approved two agreements enabling Polk County Conservation to lend canoes and related equipment for school programs May 11–15, 2026, and an Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District agreement that requires volunteer participation, life jackets, certified staff, and district insurance.
Director Curt Cable presented two signed agreements the board approved April 14. Under the first, Polk County Conservation Board (PCCB) will furnish canoes, kayaks and related gear (life jackets, paddles, oars) to Dallas County Conservation Board (DCCB) for school programs serving Adel, De Soto and Minburn May 11–15, 2026; DCCB will pick up equipment on or around May 11 and return it around May 18.
The second agreement between Adel DeSoto Minburn (ADM) School District and DCCB acknowledges participation is voluntary, requires ADM to maintain insurance for the program period, and confirms DCCB will provide certified staff and serviceable equipment. DCCB Naturalist Allie Dittmer initiated the arrangements with PCCB.
Kari Johns moved and Scott Hall seconded approval of both agreements; all members present voted "aye," and the motion carried.
