HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — The Henderson County Board of Commissioners on April 6 approved a resolution supporting Project Blaze's application for a North Carolina Department of Commerce building reuse grant and confirmed the county will provide the required 5% local match, contingent on the company's meeting previously agreed incentive conditions.
Staff said Project Blaze proposes to retrofit an existing building in Fletcher, would invest about $6.2 million and plans to create at least 33 jobs with an average proposed wage the Board referenced in its incentive discussion. The grant program requires a local 5% match; county staff said the match will come from the previously approved incentive package to Project Blaze and will only be committed if the company meets the incentive performance requirements.
Commissioners discussed the commitment and potential city contributions; Commissioner Jay Egolf said he would support contributing half of the match contingent on the City of Hendersonville agreeing to fund the remainder. The Board approved the resolution endorsing the state grant application and confirming the conditional local match commitment.
