Reid Magdanz, chair of the Borough's Budget and Finance (BAF) committee, asked whether the sustainability contribution applies only to the VIF calculation or whether it could be requested by either Teck or the Borough, how inflation adjustments would be handled, and what the planned size of the sustainability fund would be. Carl Weisner said decisions about sustainability funding should remain with the Assembly and raised questions about audit rights and whether the agreement includes triggers that would prompt future renegotiation if new mines develop. Attorney Matt Mead provided the ordinance summary and recommended the Assembly adopt it.
Derek Haviland Lie moved to approve Ordinance 26-01; Nathan Hadley Jr. seconded. The motion "carried unanimously by roll call vote," and the clerk recorded the action as passed. Procedural business recorded during the session included motions to excuse two members (Elmer Armstrong Jr. and Walter Sampson) and approval of the meeting agenda; Nathan Hadley Jr. moved to adjourn at 2:44 P.M., a motion seconded by Reid Magdanz and carried.
