District presents draft "Portrait of a Graduate" after broad community input

Erin Maguire, curriculum coordinator for grades 6–12, presented the district's draft "Portrait of a Graduate" and asked the board to use it as a guiding resource. Maguire said the steering committee collected input from 338 community respondents, 474 students and multiple community forums and stakeholder interviews to identify skills and mindsets the district should prioritize.
Maguire described four proposed pillars — critical thinking; effective communication across forms; responsibility and perseverance; and life and career readiness — and said the work will be embedded in instruction and curriculum planning. She emphasized that academics remain the umbrella for the work and said the next step is curriculum committee consideration, with the committee meeting scheduled the following day.
Board members thanked the steering committee and student contributors; several members encouraged attention to remediation practices and asked the curriculum committee to consider implementation details. Maguire and board members clarified that the presentation was informational and not a formal approval request at this meeting; formal approval would come later if the curriculum committee endorses the draft.
