Library leaders report strong patron use and expanded 'extended access' pilot in Victoria

Jody Edstrom (S5), director of the Carver County Library System, highlighted system numbers and the library’s mission to “inspire intellectual curiosity, the joy of discovery, and facilitate lifelong learning.” Edstrom said the system recorded roughly 1.5 million checkouts (digital and physical) last year, engaged about 48,000 program attendees, and used an ALA value calculator that estimated the system’s value at roughly $32,000,000.
Patrick Jones (S6), Victoria branch manager, described the local extended access pilot funded by a private Charles Dahlke grant: 175 people have signed up in less than a year, 135 completed orientation, about 100 people have used the service and roughly 50 are frequent users. Jones said the most common times for use are Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Sundays. He also reported that the program’s survey return rate was high and user feedback was predominantly positive.
Julie (S7), representing the Friends of the Victoria Library, promoted volunteer opportunities and a book sale on April 25 that supports programming. Council thanked the presenters and no action was required; the presentation served as an informational update.
