Henderson County commissioners approve consent agenda, award Berkeley Park restroom contract and authorize temporary impound lot

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners approved the consent agenda and a package of items affecting parks, public safety and human services.
The Board awarded the contract to Ryse Construction for construction of restroom facilities at the Berkeley Park Sports Complex for $796,295, which staff reported is within the project budget. The Board also approved Change Order #6 to Tennoca Construction in the amount of $83,637.25 for USTA-driven tennis court revisions and storm/site-plan changes; staff said the change order will be funded by $205,000 in grants from the U.S. Tennis Association.
In other consent actions, the Board accepted a donation of a 2018 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide FLHTP from the Town of Fletcher to the Sheriff’s Office and approved surplusing two 2009 BMW motorcycles. The Board approved a resolution surplusing one ambulance and donating it to the Henderson County Rescue Squad under N.C.G.S. 160A-280. The Board also approved a one-year lease renewal with Housing Assistance Corporation for space in the 100 N King St. building.
Strategic Behavioral Health was authorized to apply for a Bureau of Justice Assistance COSSUP site-based grant for a prosecutor-led Diversion to Recovery program; staff anticipates a potential award of up to $1,300,000 over 36 months. Henderson County Recreation accepted a $10,000 Youth Sports Grant from North Carolina Amateur Sports to purchase soccer goals and nets.
Separately, after hearing from Assistant County Manager Chris Todd and Sheriff Lowell Griffin about an immediate need for storage and upfitting of roughly 20 Sheriff’s Office vehicles, the Board voted to temporarily close Edneyville Park and allow use of the fenced tennis courts as vehicle storage and an impound area, with minimal modifications and security upgrades and total costs not to exceed $100,000.
All motions on the consent agenda and the Edneyville Park authorization were recorded as unanimous.
