Rockwood reviews Comprehensive School Improvement Plan work, emphasizing classroom-level action steps

The Rockwood Board of Education heard an update on the district—s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CIP) from Dr. Willet, who described work to align building-level School Improvement Plans with an upcoming district strategic plan.

Dr. Willet said buildings adopted three aligned goals this year — student academic learning, universal opportunity/equity/access, and character and well-being — and that district teams are conducting building visits to support principals and teacher teams in implementing specific action steps. "One of the things that we don't get to talk about much and we're really noticing a lot of growth in this area this year is the building action steps that are in place ... we've really emphasized the importance of those action steps," Dr. Willet said.

District staff described tools and practices used to drive instruction: scheduled data dives on benchmark assessments, use of Formative at middle and high levels and Seesaw at the elementary level, data-analyst support for PLCs, literacy leadership groups, proficiency scales and small-group instruction, and academic-lab drafting to deliver targeted supports. Dr. Willet said January and February will host intensive data dives after December and January benchmarks, and second-semester building visits will guide adjustments and the creation of next year's CIP aligned to the strategic plan.

Board members commended the focus on classroom-level actions and asked questions about parent communication and implementation. No formal action was taken; the update was informational.
