Victoria to replace east ice compressor at recreation center over the summer

At the June 16 meeting the committee received a status update on the east ice compressor replacement at the Victoria Recreation Center.
Staff reported that the city council approved replacing the east compressor; crews have begun initial phasing, removing old equipment and preparing specifications. The plan includes constructing a concrete pad outside the building because the new compressors are mounted outdoors. Staff said the project is expected to take place over the summer and be completed in time for the regular hockey season. In the interim the east rink floor has been used for camps and indoor activities and the walking track remains open.
Committee members noted ongoing public complaints about ice quality and welcomed the replacement as a remedy. The project timeline remains summer 2025, with staff aiming for completion before organized hockey resumes in the school year.
