Board hears summer testing plan; staff to return with action in March

Deborah Clayton presented the Warren County Schools summer testing plan, describing who is eligible, how scores are counted and the logistics for remediation and tests.
Clayton said the program counts proficiency for accountability but does not include growth. Students eligible for summer remediation and testing include grades 4–8 for reading and grades 3–8 for math; grade 3 reading is excluded because it is part of the Read to Achieve process. For high school, the plan covers English II, Math I and Math III EOCs using comparable eligibility criteria.
Important dates and logistics outlined: remediation for Mary Boyd, Northside and Warren County Middle School is scheduled for June 11 (the last regular day for students is June 10); testing for those grades is planned for June 12–13. Warren County High School and Warren Early College remediation and testing dates differ: remediation May 27 with testing May 28–29; an English II date for the high school remains to be determined in June because of semester scheduling and the EOC’s constructed-response items. Clayton said DPI data must be uploaded by July 7, 2025 for inclusion in the 2024–25 school-year data.
Clayton noted participation is voluntary and parents make the final decision; the district will provide transportation, breakfast and lunch at no cost for participating students on remediation/testing days. She said test security procedures will mirror in-year practices.
The board did not take a final vote on the summer-testing plan during the meeting; staff will return in March with an action item for adoption.
