“I come before the committee tonight to talk about the way recycling works and in some cases doesn't work here at Bennett,” Bender said, describing three recycling totes located behind a fenced area that are inaccessible to building users. He said the bins are visible from upper floors but that, as currently sited, staff must take recyclables to facilities where scheduled pickup occurs.
Bender said he sometimes uses county vehicles to move boxes and recycling to other sites when he is already driving there for work duties. He told the committee an enclosure around the dumpster area would allow on-site pickup without bins blowing away or being left in unsecured locations.
The committee did not take action during public comment; members acknowledged the problem and indicated facilities staff should examine options for an enclosure or other secure, accessible collection point. No timeline or funding decision was provided during the meeting.
