Students hold peaceful protest at Lorain High School to press for safety and support

Miss Mo, on camera from the campus of Lorain High School, said students held a peaceful, student-led protest to exercise their First Amendment rights and that school administrators "made sure that their voices were heard." She said the demonstration concluded without incident and that students "returned to their classes immediately" once it ended.

The protest, Miss Mo said, was "not just a trend. It is more than that. It is to help families and help children." She said many Hispanic students at Lorain High have been "very scared to even come to school," and framed the demonstration as an effort to bring attention to those fears and to increase adult engagement with students' concerns.

A meeting participant speaking during the event urged more student engagement, saying the protest would not single-handedly stop federal immigration enforcement but would "get kids more engaged" and help them work toward change. Another participant praised the students for "voicing their rights" and called the protest "classy" and "on the right side of history." Miss Mo said she was "so proud of our kids."
