Mini Klein students present projects; board recognizes staff and SAVANNAH R-III FFA national placings

The SAVANNAH R-III Board of Education heard a student presentation from the Mini Klein Student Council and recognized staff and students during its regular meeting.
Mini Klein sponsors Jenna Petro, Kenna Miller and Rachel Philippy introduced the 25-member student council and summarized activities across grade levels. Speakers described kindergarten reading goals and a foam party for students who met quarter-one reading targets; early grades’ reading and math work; a second-grade Macy’s Day Parade project; a third-grade field trip to the Kansas City Zoo; fourth-grade conservation activities and division work; and fifth-grade lessons that tied literature to a social studies immigration unit. The students also highlighted extracurricular clubs and fundraising: a veterans’ breakfast that served approximately 130 attendees and a homecoming fundraiser that organizers said sold 539 spirit tattoos.
Students answered questions from the board about leadership, advising the board to “listen and cooperate together” and to “communicate” when leading groups.
The board also presented staff recognitions. Ann Church was honored for leadership of custodial staff at Mini Klein, praised for professionalism and efforts that contribute to a welcoming environment. A music teacher listed in the transcript as Beth Dilap (also referred to later as Mrs. Dap) was recognized for moving music programming to the new performing-arts center and preparing successful fall concerts. The board publicly thanked both staff members.
Savannah’s FFA team and individual national placings were recognized: the team placed fourth in a national Technical Career Development event, and students McKenzie Smutler (third), Addison Neerhouse (eighth) and Kylie Frell (10th) earned individual national honors. The board invited the students and their advisers forward for photos and applause.
The recognitions concluded before the business portion of the meeting. The board’s acknowledgments were largely ceremonial, with no formal action required beyond the recognitions.
