The Lamar County School Board approved the district’s Employee Handbook 2026–2027 during the consent agenda at its April 7 meeting.
The handbook, included in the meeting materials, is a comprehensive personnel policy manual that covers employment classifications, leave and discipline procedures, Title IX and harassment policies, confidentiality, use of artificial intelligence and technology, drug‑free workplace provisions, and retirement and benefits information. It includes procedural steps for complaints, duties and responsibilities for supervisors, and updates reflecting current state and federal requirements.
The consent agenda motion to approve personnel matters including the handbook passed unanimously. The handbook specifies, among other items, leave calculation rules, Family and Medical Leave Act obligations and timelines, drug‑free workplace rules, the district’s position on medical marijuana use by employees (prohibited on district property and at district events), and requirements for use of AI tools (approval and privacy protections required).
Why it matters: the handbook governs employee conduct, benefits, and procedural rights across the district’s staff and sets expectations for operations and compliance. The document also centralizes several policies—such as Title IX grievance contacts and network acceptable use—so that employees have a single reference for rights and obligations.
The board’s approval places the handbook into effect for the 2026–2027 fiscal/contract year; district staff will distribute or post the handbook as required.
