The Lamar County School Board approved the district’s Summer School program for 2026 at its April 7 meeting.
The Office of Academic Education requested a Summer School session to support students in completing required coursework and recovering credit. The program will run Tuesday, May 26, 2026 through Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Jefferson Todd Education Center in Purvis. Student instructional hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. daily; certified staff will be scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to include planning time. Instruction will be delivered through the Edgenuity online platform, and participation will focus on students who need to recover credits or complete outstanding requirements.
Certified staff will be compensated at $30 per hour. The memorandum to the board notes staff selection will be based on student enrollment and instructional needs. The packet explicitly states transportation will not be provided for students during this session.
The motion to approve Summer School was made by Jared Slade, seconded by Jennie Hensarling, and passed 5‑0. The board packet and approval allow district staff to finalize staffing and enrollment plans for the short, targeted session.
