District spotlights athletics, wrestling state placers, theater production and HOSA success

Jacksonville — The board meeting featured several special presentations celebrating student participation and achievement in athletics, theater and career‑technical education.
Athletics staff reported that student participation in extracurricular sports rose from about 29% to 45% of the student body. The football program grew from roughly 60 athletes to more than 80. Coach Healey described a three‑year wrestling program that produced multiple state qualifiers: Layla Adomako placed second at state (the district’s highest placement to date) and Peyton Jones placed fourth. Athletic staff also noted Elijah Spann, a sophomore, earned all‑state basketball recognition.
Kylie Jones, theater director at Jacksonville High School, invited the community to performances of Disney’s The Little Mermaid featuring more than 70 scholar cast and crew members and eight elementary participants.
Jennifer Mitchell and Ms. Jones presented HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) results: roughly 50–60 students enrolled this year; 17 participated at the state competition in Hot Springs with seven advancing and one student — Riley Livingston — placing second in Patient Care Tech. All About Health will sponsor Livingston’s Patient Care Tech certification exam, and she will travel to Indianapolis for the international HOSA competition in June.
Board members applauded the programs and thanked coaches and teachers for supporting expanded student participation.
