The board conducted an open‑session hearing for Jeremiah Brown of Jacksonville High School after his mother elected to keep the hearing public. The parent asked the board to address problems she said her son experienced, including missing assignments and loss of Chromebook access. Board members and staff committed to follow up and ensure online portal access; following discussion the board moved to approve the superintendent’s recommendation and the motion carried by voice vote.
The board also considered a second expulsion matter for Elijah Smith. The superintendent had recommended expulsion, but the board instead moved to modify the recommendation and return Elijah to an Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) with a clear stipulation: any further similar violations would prompt an immediate recommendation for expulsion. The motion passed unanimously.
Board members confirmed the process steps for each case and instructed staff to communicate decisions and next steps to the families. The board also approved six uncontested student discipline items and later approved personnel recommendations after an executive session on employment matters.
