Mayor Angela Birney declared April 2026 National Poetry Month and highlighted Redmond’s investments in literary arts and its Poet Laureate program. Mayor Birney read the proclamation and introduced Nancy Borough, Redmond’s Poet Laureate, who read “Interview with Art.”
Nancy Borough told the council she will lead a two‑part storytelling poetry project this year that begins with interviews of Redmond residents and ends with poems inspired by those interviews. Borough described a Dec. 11 community showcase where residents will be able to hear both the interviews and the resulting poems and said she will also publish community poems based on words and phrases collected through public submissions and outreach. "I will read a poem called Interview with Art," Borough said in her presentation and later described the project timeline and the December event.
The proclamation noted the city’s Poet Laureate program and city grant and partnership support for poets and literary organizations. Borough’s reading and project announcement drew applause from the council and members of the public. The mayor encouraged residents to follow city Parks and Recreation channels for event listings and opportunities to participate.
