County staff seek permission to continue temporary custodial service amid rising bids

Clement said the county reclaimed equipment, overhauled inventory and gained closer oversight by managing custodial workers directly, which she said has produced cleaner public spaces. She noted prior full‑year contract costs were about $235,000 and that recent bids came in above $350,000—factors that led staff to recommend continuing temporary services and revisiting the issue quarterly.
Commissioners signaled support for extending the temporary arrangement for another quarter so staff can evaluate cost savings from inventory control and in‑house work and return with updated figures.
The board did not direct staff to sign a long‑term contract at the meeting; staff will report back with updated cost comparisons.
