The Berkeley Heights Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution at a special meeting to appoint Dr. Kim Feltri as superintendent of schools beginning Jan. 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028, and approved the employment contract previously approved by the Executive County Superintendent for Union County.
Board members introduced Dr. Feltri and summarized her 24-year career in education, noting a doctorate in educational leadership from Rowan University and prior district leadership roles including assistant superintendent and acting superintendent in Hillsboro Township Public Schools. The board read Resolution A, which specifies the appointment dates and contract terms, and then took a roll-call/voice vote approving the resolution.
"I’m deeply honored to accept the position of superintendent for the Berkeley Heights Public Schools," Dr. Kim Feltri said after the vote. She said she intends to lead through "collaborative and transparent communication," to invest in teachers and facilities, and to foster an inclusive learning environment. "I look forward to working with you to build a future where our students can thrive," she added.
Board members offered congratulations and praise during the brief public portion of the meeting. One member thanked Mr. Nixon for his service as interim superintendent during the transition period; the board recognized his work keeping the district steady while the search concluded.
Two members of the public spoke during the comment period. Bruce Cooper, a Berkeley Heights resident and grandfather of district students, said he hoped for more community dialogue between parents and administrators and urged opportunities for engagement when Dr. Feltri begins in January. Aric Samson commended the board’s selection process as transparent and merit-based and expressed optimism about Dr. Feltri’s leadership.
The board noted that Dr. Feltri is interested in meeting the community and said district events will be scheduled to provide opportunities for staff, families and other stakeholders to meet her before and after her start date. The special meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
