Old Bridge board honors retirees and championship winter sports teams

The Old Bridge Township Board of Education used its March 23 meeting to recognize long‑serving staff and student athletes.
The board approved retirements for seven staff members whose combined service totaled 181 years. The retirees named during the meeting were Diane DeFeo (27 years), Audrey Penska (28), Susan Stall (18), Naomi Trani (27), Joanne Venezali (27), Kathy Joerger (25) and D. Ramos (29). Trustees thanked the retirees for their years of service.
The board also recognized retired police officer Patrick Denafhrio for his years as a DARE instructor. Denafhrio accepted the honor and told the board he had been surprised by the recognition and emphasized his commitment to students, praising recent student participation in Partnership for a Drug‑Free New Jersey competitions.
Board members celebrated four winter athletic accomplishments: girls winter track (GMC Conference champions), unified basketball (NJSIA South Sectional champions—first in school history), boys wrestling (GMC Conference and Central Jersey Group Four Sectional champions), and girls wrestling (NJSIA girls district 7 champions—also first in school history). Coaches and teams were invited forward and the board passed the recognition resolutions.
Ending: Resolutions for retirements and recognitions passed by roll call. Board members and administrators congratulated retirees, athletes and coaches and thanked staff for their contributions.
