The board approved a staff recommendation to discard obsolete K–12 printed ELA textbooks and materials under board policy DFM, with the exception that elementary chapter books and secondary novels be retained for free‑reading or sent home, pending staff efforts to identify any other districts in need of the materials.
An administrator explained the recommendation and said staff will check a statewide database to determine whether smaller districts would accept the materials before disposal. "There is a spreadsheet, a database that shows what resources each district's using. So I will check that tomorrow and see if anybody needs them," the presenter said.
Board members expressed a desire to avoid sending usable instructional materials to landfill and asked staff to pursue redistribution before disposal. The motion to approve the staff recommendation passed by voice vote.
