The City of Victoria Senior Advisory Committee voted Dec. 1 to approve its 2026 senior resource guide, endorsing staff recommendations to add expanded transportation resources, instructions for opioid‑settlement-funded drug disposal pouches, updated city event listings and accessibility checks for the published PDF.
Committee members discussed a number of updates staff recommended for the guide, including adding a SmartLink transportation resource and expanded entries for Carver County services such as Southwest Prime, clarifying Metro Mobility eligibility, and linking active web pages in the downloadable guide. Cara, a city staff member coordinating outreach, said the disposal pouches are “part of the opioid settlement” and described how residents can empty pills into the pouch, add water, shake and discard it at home as an environmentally safer disposal method.
The committee also agreed to include civic events in the guide and to highlight the city’s Donuts & Victoria program (with scheduled events on Jan. 21, Feb. 18 and March 18) and the Light Up Victoria celebration on Dec. 4 at Bayfront Park. Staff confirmed PDF links will be active, and that printed copies and instructions for requesting a print version will be noted in the guide. Staff noted City Hall’s summer hours (closed Fridays at noon from Memorial Day to Labor Day) will be included.
Members raised formatting and accessibility questions; one member asked whether the guide’s type size complies with upcoming ADA guidance. Staff said they will audit font size and overall accessibility and make changes as required. The committee also removed an entry for the Victoria Farmers Market after staff reported the market’s hosting status was uncertain.
On the motion to approve the 2026 senior resource guide “with the recommendations as presented and discussed,” the committee recorded a motion by Susan and a second by Jennifer Spalding; the chair called for vocal assent and declared the motion carried.
Other business at the meeting included routine procedural votes: members adopted the meeting’s final agenda and approved minutes from the Nov. 3 meeting. In reports, staff said the library’s extended access program had 127 visitors in November and about 150 registered users, and staff noted the downtown west development is moving forward with a developer and is expected to go to the city council in January; the committee requested a future briefing from the community development director.
The committee set a Jan. 5 meeting for a deep dive on its 2026 work plan and then adjourned.
