Waterloo council approves vegetation and ironwork contracts and updates city code

The Waterloo City Council approved several routine but consequential items, including a revision to the city code, a multi‑year intergovernmental communications agreement and two procurement actions for public works.

Council voted to adopt Ordinance No. 1922, an update to the city administration code to add several titles to the liability‑insurance identification list. The ordinance was described at the meeting as a housekeeping update to reflect current titles.

On intergovernmental services, the council approved Resolution 25‑13, a three‑year agreement for coordinated communication services with Monroe County and Waterloo that will run to Sept. 30, 2028. A council member summarized the change as a move to restore a fairer cost share after what he called a long period of favorable treatment: "They were trying to get us to pay for our fair share because we were getting a sweetheart of a deal for a long time before that," the council member said.

On contracting, the council waived customary bidding procedures and approved an agreement with Kindle Vegetation Services for vegetation services on the south distribution surge at $95,760, plus or minus 10 percent; staff indicated work is expected to begin in October and the mayor noted the item had been discussed previously at the utility meeting. The council also approved Ormillo Iron Shop as the low bidder for a West Third Street package at $34,565.79, with a two‑month fabrication and install timeline and black powder‑coated aluminum handrails as the base specification.
