Leah said the process solicited community submissions (31 submissions from 25 individuals), conducted multiple reviews and engaged students in narrowing options to the final two designs.
Students described goals for the image: represent community, connection and belonging. The student panel explained review criteria (free of violence, harassment and racism), multiple student review rounds and testing for graphical applications such as apparel. The panel reported that most student reviewers favored the horse but that the cow was discussed as a distinct, locally rooted option representing comfort and connection to the town.
Board members praised the students’ process and professionalism. Jeff Quinell referenced local tradition and Jesse James Days as a reason the horse resonates, while others welcomed the non-’raider’ direction and the flexibility of using different crest/variant applications. Board members asked about next steps; administration proposed broader publication of the finalists and asked the board to make a selection on April 27 after additional public feedback.
