St. Charles Parish Public Schools recognizes aspiring leaders, students and athletes

The St. Charles Parish School Board honored graduates of the district’s Aspiring School Leaders Academy (ASLA) and recognized student teams and individuals for recent achievements in athletics, theater and music.
Dr. David Shexon described the nine-month ASLA program, established in the 2024–25 school year to prepare educators for leadership roles. The program’s curriculum emphasizes instructional leadership, school operations, communication and conflict resolution; Dr. Shexon said cohort 2 represents the second graduating class and that combined with cohort 1 the district now has 36 ASLA graduates. He said 13 of last year’s 19 graduates have moved into leadership positions within the district. Applications for cohort 3 have closed and cohort 3 is scheduled to begin June 11, 2026.
Board members and district staff also called forward students and coaches for photo recognition after the board highlighted numerous extracurricular successes: individual and team state and regional championships in wrestling, powerlifting, cheer and dance; all-district athletic honors; and top ratings at the Louisiana Thespian Festival.
Earlier in the meeting the board adopted a proclamation supporting the United Way of St. Charles 5K bridge run, scheduled for Saturday, March 28; Tamara Platmeer, the volunteer event manager for United Way of St. Charles, thanked the district for its logistical support and urged community participation, saying the event is “more than just a run” and that participants help provide services to residents in need.
The board recessed briefly for dinner and planned to reconvene to complete the business portion of the agenda.
