The Belvidere City Council approved a set of routine public-safety and events-related motions during its March 3 meeting.
On a motion out of the Public Safety committee, council authorized the purchase of replacement bulletproof glass for the city’s armored SWAT vehicle from SWAT Mod at a cost of $2,492. The council specified the purchase be paid from the federal asset forfeiture account and approved the expenditure by roll call.
Council also approved a series of street-closure requests from the Belvidere Area Chamber of Commerce: Buchanan Street Markets (May 30, June 20 and July 25, 2025, 4:00 p.m.–9:30 p.m.), a downtown trick-or-treat (Oct. 29, 2025, 3:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m.), and HomeTown Christmas (Dec. 5, 2025, 3:00 p.m.–9:30 p.m.). Each closure listed specific blocks and passed after committee recommendation and roll-call votes.
All of the above motions were approved by council vote during the meeting; no dissenting votes were recorded for these items.
