The Selectboard agreed to let town staff and police complete a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will govern the town ssumption of Plymouth State University police services after the university disbands its own force in February 2026.
Town Manager Scott reported that Plymouth State University plans to disband its police force and that he and Chief Buffington would meet with university administrators and PSU Police Chief Steven LaFave to work through operations, logistics and the town—inancial contribution. The board gave verbal consent to finalize the MOU and associated exhibits, including details on costs and equipment transfers.
Board members moved and seconded a motion to allow staff to proceed; the motion was approved by a voice vote. Staff said the exhibits and the equipment inventory should be completed within days, and that further operational details will be presented to the board as they are confirmed.
