Hawthorne council approves consent agenda, awards Peach Tree water tank rehab to Alpine Painting

The Hawthorne Borough Council voted unanimously on Nov. 5 to approve a consent agenda of routine resolutions, including R174-25, which awards the Peach Tree water tank rehabilitation contract to Alpine Painting & Sand Blasting.
Council members moved and seconded the consent agenda and conducted a roll-call vote; members recorded as voting yes included Skiara, Sasso, Millie, Leosa, Bennett and Matthews and the motion carried. During brief discussion, borough engineer Joe said the Peach Tree tank project will require the tank to be taken offline and that work (interior and exterior) is planned over winter with a target finish date in mid-to-late March so the system is operational by May.
The council also introduced zoning ordinance 2376-25, which would amend Chapter 540 of the borough zoning ordinance related to pre-existing structures. The ordinance passed first reading and was scheduled for final consideration and a public hearing on Dec. 3, 2025 at Borough Hall (445 L Avenue North).
Other resolutions approved on the consent agenda included clothing allowances for the fire department and volunteer ambulance corps, a 2024 audit corrective-action plan (R168-25), and budget insertions and tax-sale redemptions. The vote on the consent agenda was recorded as unanimous; no amendments or dissenting comments were made during the votes.
What happens next: the contractor award for the Peach Tree tank was authorized through the board-of-contract resolution and work will proceed under the terms to be executed by the administrator and contracting officers; the zoning ordinance will return for final passage and public comment on Dec. 3.
