The German Village Commission met on March 4, 2026, and took action on a batch of Certificates of Appropriateness and conceptual applications across the district.
Approvals and actions
- 267 East Reinhardt (COA2501241): The commission approved a revised application to demolish an existing deck, re‑install a 6‑ft privacy fence on the existing footprint and add a new patio roof and stairs with a modified structural detail (beam pocketing into masonry and a modified ledger detail). Commissioners required clearer fence line notation on final drawings and clarification of drainage/downspout connections; staff approval of clarified drawings will be required prior to permit issuance.
- 736 South Street (COA2501381): The commission approved replacing a previously approved full‑panel fiberglass entry with a four‑panel (two‑panel face) fiberglass door and associated transom details, as conditioned by staff to meet German Village door guidelines.
- 898 South 3rd Street (COA260091): Commissioners voted to approve Option B — replacement of first‑floor windows with one‑over‑one double‑hung windows to reflect historic proportions, pending selection from the approved windows list.
Split/continued matters
- 878 South Street (COA2600108): The commission split a complex application into Part A (front and side siding to be replaced with real lap wood to match original profile, partial demolition of a rear cinderblock wall and replacement with windows/sliders, and removal of a concrete strip for planting) — Part A was approved — and Part B (front door/window final verification and additional rear details) — continued pending a staff site visit to verify window and door dimensions and storm‑window conditions.
- 242 Lancing Street (COA2501368) — siding application involving James Hardie products: continued for the applicant and staff to develop installation criteria (approved installers, sheathing/attachment details and other controls) and to supply case studies from other districts.
Other items
- Several other COAs for modest exterior alterations (garage additions, siding replacements on accessory structures, small additions and landscaping improvements) were reviewed and either approved with standard conditions or given conceptual feedback.
Next steps
For continued matters the commission asked applicants to provide clarifying drawings, installer specifications and for staff to arrange a site visit (where requested) before returning the item to the agenda. Staff will also track follow‑up tasks and will schedule resumed hearings once documentation is submitted.
