Sean Jansen named program manager for digital media at Merced Union High School District

Sean Jansen said he is the new program manager for digital media at the Merced Union High School District and described plans to broaden the district's coverage of sports and academics.
"My name is Sean Jansen and I am the new program manager uh digital media," Jansen said during a brief recorded interview with Jose Tiso. He told listeners he worked at the Merced Star for 25 years, beginning in 1999, and that in the past seven to eight years he shifted from sports to more general news coverage, including local government and education.
Jansen said sports reporting has been a career passion: "I just like telling good stories," he said, citing assignments such as covering championship games and Atwater's recent title run and the sendoff the community organized. He said he looks forward to covering a broader set of high school sports—water polo, volleyball, baseball and basketball—alongside academic achievements and district programs.
On how the district will share that coverage, Jansen said the newsroom will publish stories to the district website and launch a weekly district newsletter. "We're going to put out a district newsletter that people will be able to check out," he said.
Interviewer Jose Tiso introduced Jansen as the district's new communications team member and directed listeners to the district newsletter for more information. The recorded segment closed with brief thanks and applause.
