Council expands Parks & Recreation Committee and confirms three appointees

The Victoria City Council voted March 23 to expand the Parks & Recreation Committee from nine to 10 regular members plus one student member and confirmed appointments made on March 9. Tammy Leonetti, Amanda Cahill and Blake Farber were appointed to three‑year regular terms beginning April 1, 2026, and the student appointment was confirmed as Owen Becker.
City Manager Dana Hardy explained the reason for returning the item: during the March 9 meeting the council had inadvertently made more appointments than the ordinance allowed. Staff recommended either reverting appointments or amending the ordinance to expand membership; the council chose the latter to support expanded community outreach and ambassador work by the committee during an upcoming parks and trails master planning process.
Council directed staff to return with a formal ordinance amendment to increase the committee’s membership and to ensure the appointments are consistent with the revised ordinance. The council indicated the expansion would support increased community engagement during comprehensive planning and future park projects.
