McKinley framed the request as an opportunity to reimagine the UVA–city relationship: "We would welcome the city's review and support as we work to turn this from an idea to a shared commitment," she said. Speakers stressed that the loss of potential tax revenue associated with the parcel's transfer reduces funds available to public education and asked the city to coordinate with the school board on a unified approach to engage UVA.
Council acknowledged the concern and staff noted the school board had published an op‑ed seeking a meeting with UVA. No formal motion or directive to negotiate with UVA was adopted at the meeting; parents said they will present the draft plan to the school board and return to the council for further support.
