Jackson City — The city council approved two budget amendments and scheduled a budget-committee session to advance the FY26 budget process.
The council approved proposed budget amendment #68 to recognize and appropriate an insurance recovery related to a police vehicle; the transcript records the amount as “31,12” and the figure is not fully specified in the meeting record. Councilors described the measure as straightforward and approved the item by voice vote.
Councilors also approved proposed budget amendment #72 to recognize and appropriate a $350,000 development contribution from Chick-fil-A intended to cover off-site improvements related to that project. A councilor asked whether the $350,000 would cover all off-site costs; staff said the off-site improvements would not exceed the contribution and the council approved the amendment.
On scheduling, staff and councilors discussed payroll and benefit projections as a precursor to opening operating budget modules to department heads, and agreed to set a budget-committee meeting on Feb. 26 at 3:00 p.m. to review prepared budget amendments and capital requests. Staff said payroll-projection work with HR and risk management is underway and that departments will be given time to pare nonessential CIP items given recent debt activity.
The council indicated a first-reading/second-reading schedule goal of May and June, but several members said May first reading is unlikely and pledged to continue working with staff on timing and materials.
