Superintendent outlines staff-notification timeline amid budget reductions; highlights CTE internships and Sanford clinic talks

He said the district aims to have most elementary and classified staff notified by Feb. 24 and expects secondary notifications by the Friday after the March 3 registration meeting.
Dr. Steiner also said conversations with Sanford about a potential on-site clinic are "moving forward in a really positive way" and that the board will be briefed at an upcoming planning agenda. He connected that update to broader district priorities while describing continued budget work.
On career and technical education, Dr. Jonas and Shanda Cool described expanded business partnerships and paid cooperative work experiences. Administrators said two students were placed in medical internships with Sanford (surgical and neurosurgical departments) and that work-based learning students earn both experience and academic credit.
Regarding the portrait-of-a-graduate project, Dr. Steiner said listening sessions have engaged students and staff: "So far 65 students" have participated in student sessions and staff surveys generated about "275 responses"; he said his notes from feedback amount to roughly 30 pages.
Dr. Steiner framed the strategic-plan update around three pillars: a safe, supportive and collaborative culture; effective teaching in every classroom; and a guaranteed and viable curriculum. He said the board will discuss the plan and related policy and budget items at a Feb. 26 work session.
What happens next: Staff notification and registration deadlines will proceed as outlined; administration will bring further planning materials on the Sanford clinic, strategic plan and budget reductions to upcoming work sessions.
