Committee hears Katusa building occupancy, vent-hood remedy and staffing changes; CDC unit on track for March, staff say

Management Resource David Moore told the Cherokee Nation Resource Committee that the Katusa Community Building has a partial certificate of occupancy but the kitchen vent hood did not meet fire-marshal requirements. Moore said staff can still use the space while working with the fire marshal to calculate proper venting and identify a remedy. “The vent hood didn't meet their requirements. So, they're working on a remedy on that, but they can use the space,” Moore said. He added staff are evaluating whether a new hood is necessary and that he will calculate the flow requirements to make it right.
During Moore’s report, Councilor Daryl Le asked whether the council was still on track for a March opening of the CDC unit. Moore said he would verify the schedule but believed the work was “pretty close,” and that he would confirm the timeline.
Real estate services representative Ginger Ree congratulated Jolinda Blue on her retirement after about 27 years and announced Amanda Chuklate as Blue’s replacement for IIM coordination; Ree supplied the main office phone number (918-453-5350) and said updated contact information will be posted on the office website.
The committee approved the Dec. 15, 2025 regular-session minutes by voice vote; the motion and second were not recorded by name and the chair stated the motion carries. No formal votes were recorded for the facilities items; staff said they would follow up with confirming timelines and outstanding permitting details.
