Bloomington Utility Service Board approves pest-control and Corson inspections, rejects financial-services proposal

At its Feb. 26 meeting the Bloomington Utility Service Board approved an on-call pest-control agreement with Decker Pest Control, established at $10,000 per year and billed as services are used, a measure the board said will speed routine maintenance approvals. The motion carried without objection.
The board later reviewed a proposed service agreement with Rei Financial Group; after questions and concerns from several board members the motion to approve was denied unanimously.
The board approved Amendment No. 1 to the service agreement with Corson Fire and Security to inspect backflow devices, fire-suppression systems, alarm-detection systems and fire extinguishers at CBU facilities; the amendment also covers vehicle and heavy-equipment inspections. Assistant city attorney Chris Wheeler briefed the board on an upcoming Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) field hearing on drinking-water rates, reminding the board that the hearing is for public comment rather than a question-and-answer session.
The board did not decide water rates at this meeting; the IURC field hearing will provide a public record of concerns and comments.
