Contractor ahead of schedule on downtown street work; staff promises clear streets for March 21 Jambuzzi festival

Public commenter Horge Lopez had asked whether improvements on what the record variously spells (Eurbida/Eurvida) would be finished in time for the festival. Edward Owah of KCI answered that the contractor is currently on block 7 (between Flores and Sanine) and is expected to finish the main surface work by the end of the week; tree planting and light installations will follow. Owah said he instructed the contractor not to leave barrels, closures or demolition activity on the street the day of the event and will coordinate directly to ensure the work zone is cleared in advance.
Owah showed before‑and‑after photos of block 9 where concrete and tree‑well repairs removed tripping hazards, and described conduit and irrigation preparation on other blocks. He said the contractor is "quite a bit ahead" of the previously scheduled sequence and that minor preparatory saw cuts or non‑intrusive work might continue after the festival.
Board members raised aesthetic questions about patching and staining of concrete across multiple blocks; Owah said a full replacement across blocks would produce the most uniform look, but staff will research options such as sanding and staining or overlays and return with recommendations.
Staff also confirmed the project sign from a recent contract amendment is installed on block 6 and that electrical and final tree installations are scheduled after main surface work is complete. The board encouraged staff to prioritize safety measures during the festival and to coordinate with event organizers.
