Parks/stormwater staff member Beth briefed the board on previously unforeseen erosion and drainage issues at the trail adjacent to a cemetery and a steep drop to a playing field beneath. Beth said the town will run the repair through a bidding process to determine construction costs and that design and engineering work is budgeted in the stormwater fund while construction funding has not yet been allocated. “Some of that is due to age, but a good majority of it is due to runoff from the cemetery,” Beth said, describing the site conditions.
The staff presentation emphasized protecting cemetery integrity and avoiding damage to the ball field below; staff estimated engineering and bidding services up to $22,300, noting in-house construction work may reduce the final cost. The board approved the amendment and staff said a separate budget amendment for construction will likely be brought to the incoming board for action.
