Committee approves budget amendment 2026-12 funding track resurfacing, tennis courts, Arbiter Pay and grants

The education committee approved budget amendment 2026-12, which draws down earmarked funds and reallocates budget lines to cover school facility repairs and program needs.

Finance staff outlined the amendment and said it draws $100,000 in earmarked funds for Wilson Central High School’s track resurfacing and $250,000 for Wilson County High School’s tennis court repairs. The amendment also reallocates $1,000 to the finance travel line to cover increased travel to schools and moves $25,240 to purchase an Arbiter Pay subscription intended to automate payments to sporting-event officials and reduce bookkeeping hours and tax-form complications.

The budget amendment records a $10,000 Civic Seal grant to support a Model UN program for student conference participation. Other reallocations include $3,500 from equipment to contracted services to cover a contracted welder salary at the TCAP program, $25,000 moved within the central cafeteria fund to cover contracted services, and $10,000 reallocated in the extended schools fund to cover summer field trips. A member asked for clarification on the Civic Seal grant; finance staff explained that Model UN teams represent countries and tackle global problems at conferences.

A motion to approve the amendment was made and seconded; the committee approved it by voice vote. The meeting record provided no roll-call vote tally. Finance staff noted one line had been included from an internal budgeting display in error but said it did not change the substance of the amendment.
