Springfield Township board names high-school principal, renews Chartwells and approves small meal-price increase

Springfield Township School District’s board on April 7 approved personnel and routine operational items including the hiring of a new high-school principal, a food-service renewal and a modest meal-price increase.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Joe Yanone recommended Dr. Meghgan Markle to succeed Dr. Writtenhouse as principal of Springfield Township High School. "Dr. Markle emerged as the top candidate across all stakeholder groups through the interview process and she has already begun to make connections with staff at the high school," Dr. Yanone said. The board approved the personnel slate and congratulated Dr. Markle.
The board authorized the board secretary to cast the district’s vote for Shawn Jordan for election to the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Board of Directors for the July 1, 2026–June 30, 2028 term, and also approved appointment of Daniel Coleman as district treasurer effective July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027.
On food service, the board approved renewal of the food-service management contract with Compass Group USA (doing business as Chartwells) and authorized the business administrator to sign required PTE documents. The administration said flat administrative and management fees will be $21,854 and $41,523 for the 2026 and 2027 school years, respectively. The board also approved a 5-cent-per-meal increase for the 2026–27 school year; administration said the increase is five cents across the board. The publicly read prices listed in the meeting transcript include elementary breakfast $1.50 and secondary lunch $3.30; the transcript shows an apparent formatting error for the elementary lunch line (printed as "$35"), which the district staff should confirm and correct in official materials.
The board approved several overnight student trips (YA Model Convention April 16–19, 2026; Pennsylvania Thespian planning meeting April 24–25, 2026) and authorized a confidential settlement and release for student case 2026406-1. Policy 121 (field trips and extracurricular activities) received a single reading and was approved to move forward.
What’s next: The administration said it will include updates on campus signage and summer access in upcoming newsletters and bring calendar items back to the academic-affairs committee.
