The Lincoln Parish School Board announced April 9 that it received one application for the superintendent vacancy and set a public meet-and-greet and a formal board meeting to consider hiring on May 5, 2026.
In a presentation to the board, the chair said the application box contained only one valid candidate: “We had one application that we received as an application for superintendent. And that was from Mr. John Young, who is our assistant superintendent now,” and the board responded with applause.
Board members were advised by Mr. John Guice that state timing requirements prevent a final hire before 30 days have elapsed since the application deadline and that any selection will require seven affirmative votes. The chair proposed a public meet-and-greet at the district STEM Center from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. followed by the board meeting at 6:00 p.m.; the board moved, seconded and approved placing the interviews and hiring consideration on the May 5 agenda.
Mr. John Young confirmed availability for the date, responding, “Yes.” Board members discussed whether to hold formal interviews or rely on the meet-and-greet and advised staff that the format may be decided before the May meeting.
The board did not take a final hiring vote at the April 9 meeting. By statute and board counsel’s advice, a hiring vote will be scheduled only after the statutory lapse period and with the required number of votes. The meet-and-greet and the May 5 meeting are the next procedural steps.
What’s next: The board will hold the public meet-and-greet at the STEM Center at 4:30 p.m. on May 5 and then consider any formal action on the superintendent at the 6:00 p.m. meeting. Any final hiring vote will be recorded in the minutes of that meeting.
