Joliet Arsenal Development Authority donates $10,000 to Manhattan for Route 66 promotion

Tim Brophy, chairman of the Joliet Arsenal Development Authority, presented a $10,000 check to the Village of Manhattan at the April 7 meeting to support local tourism and promotion tied to Route 66 and Arsenal redevelopment.
“We certainly want to participate with our communities that are within the Joliet Arsenal Development Authority organization, which Manhattan has been for years,” Brophy said before presenting the check. He described a partnership to promote Route 66 and local Arsenal history and introduced a short promotional video produced by JADA that traces Route 66’s history through Will County.
Brophy told the board: “It’s a $10,000 check so that you can kick off the summer of tourism that we hope will expand in Manhattan and people enjoy the things that we all know about Manhattan that are cool and the rest of the world should find out too.” Board members thanked the JADA representatives and discussed working with the local historical society and neighboring towns on promotion.
Later in the meeting the board approved the purchase of patriotic banners and lighted Route 66 decorations for Route 52 that staff said were supported by the JADA grant.
