The Absecon City Council on Dec. 19 approved a consent agenda that includes budget insertions to accept state grant funds, release of property escrow, and authorizations for Remington & Vernick to administer several engineering projects.
The consent package listed authorizations for engineering services for an estate drainage study, reconstruction of Delaware Avenue under the 2025 NJ Department of Transportation municipal aid program, design of an ADA-accessible ramp at City Hall, a municipal infrastructure assessment, and sewer infrastructure mapping updates. The agenda also included an insertion into the 2024 municipal budget of $2,379.41 for the State Body Armor Fund and other state aid items totaling $275,800 and $578,000 as noted during the consent list discussion.
Ed, the city engineer, said the city completed most active construction projects for the year and that the Delaware Avenue work will move into the engineering phase after the recently received state aid grant. "Pretty much all of our active construction projects are complete for the year," he said, adding the grant will allow the city to begin design and planning for spring construction.
Council members emphasized public-safety and infrastructure priorities tied to the work. Councilman Clark praised the local police and noted community reports have helped address recent crime trends, saying the ride-along he completed showed "these guys put their lives on the line every single day." The council also discussed striping, sign inventory, and improvements to street lighting in coordination with Atlantic City Electric.
