McKeesport board accepts grants, advances CTE, and moves forward on security, athletics and TeachFX pilot

The McKeesport Area School District board on April 9 approved several consent blocks, accepted a Department of Education supplemental equipment grant of just over $76,000, and heard committee reports on athletics, career-and-technical education and security upgrades.
Board members said the district will accept a supplemental equipment grant from the state Department of Education of just over $76,000 to support career and technical programs. "Thank you to Dr. Lou Spring for getting that for us," one committee speaker said while outlining the grant and CTE progress.
The board’s Career and Technical Education committee reported enrollment increases in the engineering program and exploration of plumbing and multi-discipline construction coursework to align with industry needs. The district also announced a renewed partnership with Six Star Protein to make its product available to McKeesport athletes and to support athlete recognition and future scholarship incentives.
Facilities and Buildings & Grounds reported security work including camera upgrades, parking-lot lighting reviews and an access-control replacement for Founders Hall and the administration building to address failing legacy systems. The committee said staff will address requested camera-angle adjustments and that security officer staffing levels remain under review.
The Education, Legislation and Policy committee outlined instructional updates and said a TeachFX pilot—an audio-based classroom feedback tool that analyzes teacher and student talk—was on the night's agenda for approval and is planned to start with roughly 25 teachers to gather data on student discourse.
On routine business, the board approved multiple consent items across the meeting agenda (sections 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9) by roll call, with one block (4.3) taken separately and some abstentions recorded during the vote on section 9 items. The meeting also included routine committee updates on finance and personnel and a motion to approve a student-discipline resolution (discussed in public comment).
