Megan Fitzgerald was elected chair of the Brentwood School Board after Superintendent-designate Renee Bennett nominated her at the start of the meeting. The nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote, and Fitzgerald took the gavel.
Trustees then nominated Dan Abear for vice chair; Abear accepted the nomination and the board confirmed him. The quick leadership elections were the opening business of the meeting, conducted before reports and the public-comment period.
After leadership was settled, board members volunteered for or were assigned to standing and ad hoc committees including safety and security, superintendent evaluation, budget, strategic planning and community engagement. Several trustees requested that committee meeting times be coordinated with the board calendar to avoid conflicts; the board chair said she will circulate an editable agenda in advance of the next meeting so members can suggest adjustments.
The meeting proceeded to regular business, including approval of amended minutes and review of the financial packet and school operations.
