License Commission approves BYOB request for Taste of Tradition in Indian Orchard

The Springfield City License Commission approved a new BYOB petition April 8 for Taste of Tradition, a restaurant at 174 Main Street in Indian Orchard. Leah Warwick, the manager of record, said the BYOB option would primarily allow customers to bring bottled wine for dinners or private events such as baby showers and would not involve onsite sale of alcohol.
Warwick described previous restaurant work and bartending experience, including a dozen years at Olive Garden and experience as a bartender at MGM, and said she is familiar with recognizing intoxication and would use staff oversight and cameras to monitor patrons. "My focus is a bottle of wine... I'm very familiar with signs of people being way too intoxicated to drive," Warwick said. Commissioners asked about training requirements; Warwick confirmed TIP certification is current and said she would ensure any staff working when BYOB is allowed would be certified.
No members of the public spoke in opposition. Commissioners moved, seconded and voted to approve the BYOB petition; the Chair asked the applicant to follow up with the license office to complete paperwork before operating under the BYOB allowance.
