Aubrey Foundation promotes final "Purple for Papis" 5K to benefit North Brunswick students

Representatives of the Aubrey Foundation presented the story and mission behind the Purple for Papis 5K at Tuesday's school board meeting and invited the community to the Oct. 20 event intended to be the race's final, celebratory run.
"The Purple for Papis 5K is so much more than just a race," said R. Alvarez, who identified himself as an Aubrey Foundation representative. The foundation, a local 501(c)(3) established in memory of a Lynwood Middle School teacher, has provided scholarships and support for North Brunswick Township students for a decade and has given "over $90,000" to students and community causes, Alvarez said. For this final race the foundation aims to raise $100,000.
Emily Angeles, who joined Alvarez, described the event as inclusive: walkers, families, volunteers and teams are all welcome. The presentation included a short video illustrating past events and emphasized the foundation's scholarship program and other local efforts such as support for first responders and veterans.
Board members thanked the foundation for its work in the schools and encouraged community participation. The foundation directed interested registrants to its website for details and registration.
