Jefferson Elementary board honors parent volunteers, teachers and nurses and approves routine personnel actions

The Jefferson Elementary School District governing board used its April 23 meeting to recognize parent volunteers and adopt several ceremonial resolutions, while approving routine personnel actions.

A trustee read Resolution No. 25423 honoring parent volunteers districtwide during National Volunteer Month; the board approved the resolution by roll call. Trustees distributed roughly 80 certificates to parent volunteers from schools across the district and invited recipients to a group photo.

The board also adopted a resolution recognizing May 6, 2025, as National Teacher Appreciation Day (and May 14 as California Day of the Teacher) and a resolution recognizing May 7, 2025, as National School Nurse Day. Trustees used the adoption moments to thank teachers and nurses for their service; each resolution passed by roll call vote.

During the public‑comment portion of the meeting, a community representative identifying themself as "K." and a former district board member spoke for the Kids First Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) that the speaker said has "raised tens of thousands of dollars" over 15 years to support the district's arts program and will seek community feedback for future priorities.

On personnel matters, the board approved the retirement of Christina Domin (second‑grade teacher at MP Brown), effective June 7, 2025, and approved retirements for several classified staff with the same effective date; trustees noted decades of combined service and thanked the employees for their years on the job.

The meeting concluded with governance comments and an adjournment at roughly 8:16 p.m.
