Saratoga County accepts $250,000 state infrastructure grant for Schuylerville visitor center revamp

The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors voted to accept county infrastructure grant funding from Empire State Development and amend the 2026 county budget to reflect the award.
Steve, a county staff member, told the board that New York State administers a $50 million program that allows counties to apply for up to $1 million each. Saratoga County applied for $250,000 to support renovation of the Schuylerville visitor center, which will serve as a hub for the county's 250th anniversary activities. "We cannot submit for reimbursement for this grant until the completion of the project," he said, noting the award is a reimbursable, matching grant.
Steve described progress on the construction: much of the hands-on work has been performed by the county buildings and grounds team, which counts toward the county's match. He said John Gervasio, who began work as grounds supervisor on the visitor center project, has recently retired, and Bob McFarland, the director of buildings and grounds, is now overseeing the project. Work items mentioned included installation of wallboard and paving of the back lot.
A motion to accept the grant and amend the budget was moved and seconded; the board approved it by voice vote. The county will submit reimbursement requests to Empire State Development once the project is complete and final costs are known.
The board did not set a reimbursement timetable at the meeting and did not provide a project completion date in the record.
